Mad Benefits: The Ocean

I've always believed that the ocean heals the body and soul. Growing up, my mom really taught us the importance of surrounding ourselves with nature and connecting to our earth, especially the sea. I remember spending so many days as a child, complaining that I hated how the sand stuck to the soles of my feet, but now I can't think of any better feeling. We often connect the ocean to the feeling of calm and serenity, but how much does the saltwater affect our body and well-being?

Mind

Psychological and emotional benefits have been associated with the ocean since ancient times. Historically, doctors would recommend that their patients go to the seaside to improve various aspects of their health. More recent research has found that there is a deeper reason why humans are so drawn to the sea. The noises and visuals of the waters work to activate your parasympathetic nervous system, slowing us down and allowing us to feel more relaxed and engaged. The cool blue color palette has also been found to change our brain wave frequencies and put us in a meditative state. This feeling is also triggered by the change in breathing patterns and heart rate that our body goes through after swimming in the sea.

Body

The ocean is rich in minerals such as magnesium and iron, whose anti-inflammatory properties help protect and heal our body. With the sun, these minerals work to regenerate your skin and improve acne, psoriasis, and eczema. The ocean air is charged with negative ions, which increases our serotonin levels, naturally boosting our mood. Because of its properties, the salt oxygenates our blood, regulates sugar levels, and treats nervousness.

The ocean is truly nature's gift to us. It provides the air we breathe, the food we eat, and countless other benefits to our planet and the creatures that live here. Next time you find yourself by the ocean, take a moment of gratitude for the sun's rays, the ocean air, and their powerful healing qualities. Remember to pay homage to our beautiful home and appreciate everything it has to offer us. Absorb its rays, breathe in the fresh air, and connect with the positive energy around you.

Love always,
